The Order of Elders:

An Invitation to Join.....

Elders are an essential part of the Presbyterian system of governance. The Order of Elders provides elders with a new way of living out the promises made at ordination. Elders are invited to serve and be served, to inform and be informed, to nourish and to be nourished. The Order of Elders is a project of the Office of Christian Formation, and is part of the work and ministry of Theology Worship and Education. The Covenant includes: The Daily Lectionary, the Book of Confessions, and The Mission Yearbook for Prayer and Study.

Cost of Membership: Individual members - $30/first yr and $25 renewals; Institutional Memberships - $25/first yr and $20 renewals.

New Members receive the following:

1.Access to a member-only website with: a list of resources, including electronic access to many of the daily readings; a roster of members; a discussion forum to communicate with other members; and reports on regional gatherings, and suggestions for planning one in your area.

Diakonia

A Network of Benefits for Deacons similar to "The Order of Elders" - beginning in July 2008

Membership is open to individuals and to groups of persons who are ordained and serving as deacons in any PC(USA) congregation.

The objectives of Diakonia:

  • To provide additional training and support to individuals and groups of deacons
  • To provide the opportunity to reflect on and study the ministry of the diaconate from a biblical, societal, and theological perspective
  • To strengthen fellowship among members and to render mutual support.

Benefits available to members:

  • The Office of Congregational Leadership, along with sponsoring synods and presbyteries, will offer biennial training retreats. Members of Diakonia will be able to attend these training retreats free of charge.
  • Members will receive a biennial reading list along with publications produced by the offices of Theology and Worship and Christian Formation.
  • Members will receive a copy of the Presbyterian Planning Calendar
  • Members will have the opportunity to participate in national and internationsl mission study seminars. (There will be an additional charge for the mission trips.)
  • Members will receive a coffee mug engraved with the name of the network, as a daily reminder of the call to serve.
